Bowen is situated on the Whitsunday Coast in Queensland, between Townsville and Airlie Beach. Surrounding Bowen are several beaches and coves backed by attractive parkland and picnic areas. The beaches include Horseshoe Bay, Rose Bay, Murray Bay and Coral Bay. There is a pleasant walk along the beachfront past all of the beautiful bays, as well as a lookout at Horseshoe Bay. If you don't fancy the walk, you can also drive to Horseshoe Bay, and then stroll out to the lookout.

Along with the beachfront parkland you will also find Mullers Lagoon, which is close to the beaches. This large park offers more pleasant walks, plenty of open grass areas, as well as an attractive lake. Bowen has a major fruit growing industry and so is perfect for travellers looking for fruit picking work. On your days off there is plenty to do, form visiting the local sights to just relaxing on one of the many beaches.
There are several attractive buildings in Bowen, including the Courthouse and the Art Deco Bowen Post Office. You will pass these and many more on the walking trail around town. In town you should visit the interesting Bowen Historical Museum, which is situated on Gordon Street. There is also a Soldiers Memorial on Herbert Street and several other attractions. As you wander around the town you will notice many wall murals. To see all of the murals and sights around town you should follow the walking trail. Just follow the signposts and you won't miss a thing.
You will find several places to stay around Bowen, including camping and caravan parks as well as hotels and hostels. Many of these are situated along the beachfront.

Maleny
Maleny is situated within the magnificent Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Queensland. This gorgeous backdrop attracts tourists from all over the world. The area has amazing views and beautiful rainforests. The highest point within the region rises to almost 550 metres above sea level. Views of the Glass House Mountains, Bribie and Moreton Island can be viewed from this area within the Blackall Ranges.
Since settlement during the 1870's, the local population has grown to just a few thousand. Initially a timber region, Maleny has supported the surrounding areas with milk production for years. Local attractions include Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve which is home to numerous species of wildlife and is popular with bushwalkers, birdwatchers and makes a relaxing location for a picnic. Lake Baroon offers a number of water sport activities including sailing, fishing and canoeing. The area around the lake has several areas for picnicking together with barbeque facilities, children's playground and toilets.
Maleny
Maleny is becoming a tourist attraction in its own right with an abundance of activities and a diverse population. Crafts are huge part of Maleny, together with variety shops and local art, with the area having produced a number of renowned artists and galleries.
Gympie is an old gold mining town situated along the Bruce Highway on the Fraser Coast. You can find out about the mining industry in Gympie at the Gympie and District Historical and Mining Museum.
Other attractions in Gympie include the interesting Woodworks Forestry and Timber Museum. Gympie also holds two great festivals. The Country Music Muster is held in August, while the Gold Rush Festival is held in October. Both of which are great fun. Alongside the Bruce Highway you will pass Rotaract Park, which is a large and attractive park. Within the park you can wander around the lake, relax in the picnic area and enjoy the beautiful gardens.
You will also notice the large statue, called Husman Place. The statue is in memory of the gold miners who worked in Gympie during the gold rush. From Gympie you can turn off towards the coast and the pretty Rainbow Beach, from where you can visit popular Fraser Island or continue south along the beach to Noosa.
